The British Empire was the largest in history and by 1913 it had control over 23% of the world population. In total it covered 35.5 million square kilometers and British law was over a total of 412 million people at their peak. The Empire used to be called “the empire on which the sun never sets” because of how vast its lands were. The Empire also lasted extremely long, from the 16th until the 18th century making it one of the longest reigning in history. Along with power, comes responsibility and the British Empire was notorious for abusing it, as well as its colonized peoples.
