The Macedonian Empire was an ancient kingdom that dominated Classical and Hellenistic Greece from 808-168 BC and 150-148 BC. During the reign of Philip II, which lasted from 359-336 BC, the small kingdom of Macedonia transformed into a powerful empire that ruled the entire Greek world. Phillip II’s son was Alexander the Great and he kept his fathers control over all of Greece by creating the Federation of Greek States after destroying Thebes. For most of Alexander’s rein he lead a conquest against the Achaemenid Empire in response to Persian invasion in the 5th century. Alexander led many bloody wars to conquer all the land he had acquired but in response, Greek culture flourished throughout all territories.
