Because Werner shows this bravery, he is respected by the wolves in his sanctuary. Wolfman Werner may look like any ordinary man, but he’s really a man of wolves. He shows courage every day that he spends with his wolf pack. Wolf Family For the last 40 years, Werner has lived amongst wolves in Merzig, Germany. What’s even more is that he’s the alpha male of the pack. Leader The wolves treat Werner as the leader of their pack because he has been with them for so long. They even share their food with him. No Fear Here Wolves are able to sense when people are afraid. Werner is clearly fearless when he is around the wolves. Adoption How did Werner come into possession of these majestic creatures? He adopts them from zoos and parks as cubs. Behavior Typically, wolves are seen as dangerous towards people. However, they are overly friendly and playful when it comes to interacting with Werner. Dominance Why are the wolves so respectful of Werner? It’s because as cubs he asserts his dominance. Multiple Packs Werner’s pack of wolves has come from all over the world. The wolves in his pack come from six different packs. Arctic Wolves Werner has wolves from Mongolia, Europe, Siberia, and the Arctic regions. People recognize the Arctic wolves most because of their white fur. Asserting Dominance How does Werner assert his dominance? He always takes the first bite of a meal when feeding his wolves. This shows the wolves to respect him and that he has the power. In Control The wolves recognize Werner’s position in the pack. They never eat until he finishes. Hierarchy Werner’s technique of raising the wolves to see him as an alpha male have taught them that there is a hierarchy, which they are able to recognize. Howling To keep his rank as the alpha male, Werner had to learn to howl just like his wolves. When he howls it shows the wolves that he is dominant.
