Sarah and Andy prayed for help to start a family. Sarah was having some trouble getting pregnant, so they decided to adopt. After a long and strenuous adoption process, the couple received some pretty incredible news that would change their lives forever.

Sarah and Andy Justice loved each other and didn’t mind it being just the two of them for a little while. That is until they wanted to start a family.

Struggling to Get Pregnant

The Justices decided to start their family after three years of being married. However, they didn’t expect getting pregnant to be so difficult. They tried for three years and it was starting to put a strain on their relationship. Finally, they decided to get professional medical help.

Fertility Doctor

Sarah and Andy lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma and weren’t able to find a fertility specialist located in their hometown. So, they decided to go to St. Louis, Missouri for a highly recommended fertility specialist. They were willing to do anything to start their family.

Sad News

It was 2014 when the Justices met with the fertility doctor in Missouri. The couple received some sad news, though. Sarah showed no change in the possibility of getting pregnant.

In Vitro

The visit came with even more sad news. The doctor told the Justices that while they were great candidates for in vitro fertilization, there wasn’t much of a chance that it would work. The chance of getting pregnant was just 10% with this method, not to mention it’s incredibly expensive and invasive.

Money

In vitro can cost between $12,000 and $15,000 for a basic cycle. This procedure is rarely covered by health insurance. After doing some math, the Justices concluded they would spend between $30,000 and $60,000 on IVF. This high cost made the move onto plan C – adoption.

Adopting

Sarah and Andy wouldn’t let anything stop them from becoming parents. They decided to start the long and strenuous adoption process. They searched for an adoption agency and had to complete a home study before even being considered.

Perseverance

Though Sarah and Andy encountered some obstacles during the adoption process, they weren’t going to let anything keep them from having a baby.

Adoption Interviews

Adopting a baby is no easy task. After completing a home study, the Justices had to take part in multiple interviews with the adoption agency to make sure they would be fit parents. These interviews were exhausting and usually high-pressure.

Getting Their Hopes Up

The couple found a woman who was about to give birth. She told them that they could adopt her child. They couldn’t be more excited! However, things turned for the worst.

Change of Heart

Unfortunately, the mother changed her mind last minute and decided to keep the baby herself. The Justices were devastated and heartbroken. However, they continued to try to get the baby they always wanted.

More Disappointment

They went back to the agency and interviewed with another pregnant woman. Sadly, the mother decided to keep her baby last minute as well.

Never Giving Up

The Justices had come across many obstacles in their journey to start a family. They weren’t ready to give up, though. It’s a good thing, too, because good news was just around the corner!

The Call

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:14-22.jpg

At their lowest point, Sarah received a call that would turn their world upside down. It turned out that there was a pregnant woman who wanted the Justices to adopt her baby. While they had some bad experiences in the past with this, Sarah felt there was something different this time.

Ultrasound

Sarah and Andy went to an ultrasound appointment with the woman to see the baby. It turns out that the woman was having triplets!

Preparing

How does one prepare for three babies? Yet another challenge that the Justices had to face, they were ready to overcome it and prepare their home and their hearts for their three new children.

Getting to Work

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:18-19.jpg

The couple got to work and started baby proofing the entire house. They bought cribs, strollers, and toys to get ready for the arrival of their triplets.

Arrival

Sarah and Andy received an exciting call from the birth mother. She was going into labor! They met her at the hospital and waited for the babies to arrive. Three small babies were born. Sarah and Andy named them Hannah, Joel, and Elizabeth.

Premature

The triplets were born eight weeks earlier than expected, so they had to stay in the neonatal care unit before they could go home.

Stress

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:21-16.jpg

Just a week after the triplets were born, Sarah started to feel unwell. All of the stress of the adoption process and wanting a baby for so long was probably getting to her. She went to the doctor to see what was going on with her body.

Sarah received some pretty incredible news when she went to the doctor that day. She was pregnant!

Twins

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:23-14.jpg

That wasn’t the only surprising news though. Sarah was expecting twins! She was shocked at the news. She had been told for years that she was unable to have children and now she was expecting twins.

Blessed

Sarah and Andy could only laugh at the situation. They were now going to have five babies all under the age of one. How were they going to handle it?

Bigger Family

Just as the Justices were getting into a routine of taking care of their triplets, Sarah went into labor. They were so excited to welcome the twins, Andrew and Abigail to their family.

Feeding Their Family

Thanks to a wonderful community, Sarah and Andy received all the help they needed to take care of five babies. Tulsa’s Eastland Baptist Church helped the couple in everyway possible by donating food and cooking meals for the family.

Help from the Community

Other people offered to babysit the children so Andy and Sarah could go to work and make some money. The family received many donations, most from complete strangers. They were so grateful for all of the help they received.

Adjusting to a New Life

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:28-12.jpg

The family had to adjust to a new life and taking care of five babies at once. One of the challenges they ran into is telling the babies apart from one another! Andy had a great idea of painting each of the babies’ toenails different colors to help them.

Going Viral

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:29-11.jpg

It wasn’t long before the family’s story got out and went viral. People loved their story and perseverance throughout the whole thing.

One More Addition

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:30-5.jpg

Sarah unexpectedly found out she was pregnant with another child! Even with five children, the couple was excited to welcome their sixth to the family. “It was something we’ve wanted so badly that we love it. We just really love having these children,” Sarah said on the Today show.

No Big Deal

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:31-11.jpg

What’s one more baby when you already have five? At least this one wasn’t going to be a multiple!

Sixth Baby

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:32-11.jpg

It can get pretty hectic with eight people living in one house. However, the family loves being together and overcoming any challenge that is thrown their way.

Caleb

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:33-11.jpg

The new baby’s name is Caleb. The triplets were four years old when Caleb was born and the twins just three and a half. Luckily, when Caleb arrived, most of the children were already potty trained.

Living the Dream

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:34-9.jpg

“Having a number of children is a dream come true. When you wait for something you appreciate it that much more when you get it,” Sarah said in an interview. She is so grateful for all of her children.

Transitions

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:35-8.jpg

As if multiples weren’t hard enough, imagine have two sets of them! “Having five in toddler beds is an adventure. But we are getting there,” Sarah said. It was a difficult transition moving five children from cribs to beds.

Hectic Calendar

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:36-10.jpg

With so many children comes some hectic schedules, especially as they grow older and have different interests. Right now they have a nice routine of a morning walk, play dates, and doing chores together.

Potty Training

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:37-7.jpg

“Potty breaks are a big part of our day when you have five children at the same life stage,” Sarah shared with Babyology. Soon enough the family will be able to move on from this messy stage of their lives.

Always Together

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:38-8.jpg

The Justices love that their children will always have each other to play with and hang out with. “We never lack playmates and work to promote love and care between the siblings. Our children will always have a friend and will never need to feel lonely,” Sarah shared.

Long Journey

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:39-8.jpg

It’s been a long journey for Sarah and Andy to get where they are now. It’s incredible that they are now using 84 bottles and 300 diapers per week! What’s even better is that the toddlers “absolutely adore their baby Caleb.”

Fan Club

Macintosh HD:Users:brittanyloeffler:Downloads:Adopting Triplets:40-8.jpg

Sarah and Andy are so lucky that their children all get along. “He has the best fan club ever and we cannot imagine life without the sweetest, most loved little guy in the world,” Sarah said. They are forever grateful for the family they have created.
