The United States government is sworn to protect the citizens of the United States, however have you noticed that they tend to have a lot of secrets? While some are expected due to the nature of how the government works, sometimes there can be some seriously strange occurrences that happen in the United States. From Area 51 to the strange military base in the Bermuda Triangle, you don’t have to look very far to find a whole lot of weird here in the good ‘ole USA.

One such strange phenomena is what is considered to be the “Pyramid at the End of the World”. Over 280 miles north of Fargo, North Dakota in the small town of Nekoma there’s a small piece of America’s atomic history left standing. Currently, the small county is at war with a small religious sect over the pyramid, which is a part of the Stanley Mickelson Safeguard Complex , and was a decommissioned military base out in the middle of nowhere. While some believe that the pyramid, also known as the “Pyramid of the Prairie” was built by the Illuminati, and run by a religious cult that performed top-secret human experiments, the truth is actually not all that crazy.

The structure was once armed with nuclear warheads and has been abandoned for over 40 years. Currently, it only attracts conspiracy theorists and Cold War tourists, who want to make sense of the strange complex which was designed as part of a nuclear defense program. During the 1970’s there was fear that the tensions between the United States and Russia were going to hit a boiling point. Thus, this complex was the first of its kind with the hopes that over 14 would be built across the country. Thankfully, the SALT Treaty prevented any hostile action. Therefore, this was the only complex that was ever completed.

We can’t imagine what the citizens of this small town thought when it was first built, since it definitely looks like something from another planet. You have to wonder what could possibly be left inside, maybe some relics of our Cold War past? Although secret experiments do sound better if you ask us. While the information regarding the Pyramid of the Prairie is limited we did find 20 facts about the complex and the area we thought you might find interesting. From the religious fanatics to a small town on the brink, here some interesting facts about this abandoned facility.
