4. The Umbrella Tree
The Hawaiian umbrella is one of the most stunning houseplants you can get and it just so happens to be extremely durable. The schefflera arboricola bonsai is the official name for this majestic tree and it’s pretty much the miniature version of its quite large sibling. The miniature tree has a dense brush of think dark green leaves that stay all year round and all they need is some indirect sunlight. They aren’t fickle about their watering schedule either making them great for everyone—even if you haven’t quite got your green thumb yet.
This is another plant that’s a great communicator because it will tell you with its leaves exactly what it needs. If the leaves are starting to curl up it needs some water and if they turn brown you’ve done too much. These tropical wonders can grow large and their trunks can be trained to take on some pretty interesting shapes.
