An HBO documentary came out about Scientology and claimed that Travolta was “Scientology’s captive.” There are a couple of conspiracy theories around John’s relationship with the religion. Marty Rathbun, a former Scientology exec, said, “One Scientologist told me that he was delegated to create a ‘black PR’ package – all the damaging material that they could use against Travolta, which came from his auditing sessions.”
