The role that put Travolta on the map was The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. It aired on television in 1976. Travolta plays Tod, a boy who needs to live in a plastic bubble because of a weak immune system. He falls in love with the girl next door and tries to leave his bubble to be with her. It was on this set that Travolta was met with his first Hollywood scandal.
