Though you may not consider him to be in the same area of the religious world as most of the individuals on this list, you recognize Martin Luther King Jr. as a figure of great importance. Much like Jesse Jackson, someone he had a close relationship with, he used his ability to preach to help push for civil rights, living the life of an activist until his assassination.
To this day he is a celebrated figure and often looked at as a softer spoken but more powerful figure than Malcom X, whom fought for the same ideals. The sad part of the whole story though is that MLK never lived to see the effect he had on the world.
