The terrifying vampire squid is an ancient species that is actually in between a squid and an octopus and it has a deep red color. The threat response of the animal is quite unique, as it turns itself inside-out to display many rows or spikes that are actually quite soft. Due to the low oxygen levels in their environments, they have adapted to gliding through ocean currents, expelling the least amount of energy possible.
