The Gobekli Tepe is a rural area of Turkey that dates back to the 10th millennium B.C. and is considered to be the world’s oldest place to worship. Discovered in 1994, it contains rings of huge stone pillars with carvings of animals and other deities. According to archaeological findings, the people who built the pillars were nomadic hunters who knew nothing of agriculture. This poses a question: Did building projects lead to settlements or did settlements lead to building projects?
