16. The Ark of the Covenant
The Ark of the Covenant is one of the more popular unsolved mysteries in the world of archaeology. A large wooden box that’s encrusted with gold, according to the Book of Exodus it contains the original ten commandment stone tablets. The Ark used to be housed in the First Temple within Jerusalem; however, after the Babylonians attacked, it vanished. There have been very few leads as to where the Ark disappeared to, although recent research suggests it’s within a monastery in Ethiopia.
