4. Mount Owen Moa
Now, this is a truly frightening discovery. The claw of an ancient wingless bird known as the Moa was discovered intact on Mount Owen, New Zealand, in 1986 by a group of archaeologists. The prehistoric bird was definitely a large predator when it was alive. The claw that was found was surprisingly intact and still had scales and preserved tissue. After analyzing a sample, it was concluded that the claw was over 3,000 years old. What’s even crazier about this discovery is that a Japanese scientist has procured a DNA sample and hopes to recreate it in a chicken embryo. The hope of bringing this bird back from extinction sounds a little too Jurassic Park if you ask us.
