3. Terracotta Army
The clay statues of the Terracotta Army were discovered in in 1974 by a group of farmers and are sculpted representations of the army of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. According to legend, the sculptures were created to defend the emperor in the afterlife. Recent surveys suggest that there are over 8,000 sculptures within the three pits that the Terracotta Army is located. Mysterious, indeed.
